This is the friendly giant which will be giving Lightning McQueen a run for its money; just look how playful Bentley’s new Mulsanne looks from this angle.

We reckon there’s something in its loveable looks – not that we’re cynics but when the world has got to the stage of crying acid tears and eating test tube vegetables, the last thing they want to embrace is another gas guzzler. This however is no plain old act of arrogance; it is, we’re told, a legacy which was 80 years in the making, a luxury grand tourer which demonstrates British motoring at its finest.

The Mulsanne which had its world debut at the Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance, sees a return to the ‘winged B’ emblem. This badging is hoped to trigger a wave of patriotism and pride as back in 1930 when the original was first shown in London, its 100mph capability was quite something. Not only this but the Mulsanne also achieved six triumphs for Bentley at the Le Mans circuit and also proved that its endurance, comfort and craftsmanship out on the open road was unmatchable. Will it be able to surpass the rest when it is handed over to its new owners in Summer 2010? We will have to wait and see.
